Easy, Healing Vegan Golden Milk – Creamy golden milk with dairy-free milk, ginger, turmeric, peppercorn, cinnamon and coconut oil with so many added benefits!

Hey fam! I am going to be sharing with you the holy grail of hot, satisfying and healthy beverages.  But first let’s talk Whole30 business…

My husband and I are exactly a week into our Whole30 journey.  We decided to start after some travel we had to take to Pennsylvania.  It was just going to be too difficult to stay on task there.  So January 15th we got start on our Whole30 adventure!  I’m not going to lie and tell you it’s been the easiest thing we’ve done.  Day 3 was rough because all I wanted was chocolate candy.  Day 6 we went to a pizza restaurant with out friends and only got a salad… and we brought our own dressing. But we survived and our tummies and skin are the better for it!

So far I have made some fantastic dishes and I cannot wait to share them with you.  Whole30 dishes in the lineup are:

Chicken Pad Thai. <— the bombest!

Chicken and Roasted Cauliflower Rice Curry Soup <— fave lunch even when not Whole30ing

Homemade Ghee <— It’s a staple in this paleo house!

Breakfast Hash <— Breakfast Bowls for busy people anyone

Smokey Bison Chili <— because smokey is always better than not

Breakfast Sandwiches <— you’ll never believe what the “bread” is

Sheppards Pie <— Whole30 comfort food?  Yes please!

Okay enough with the sneak peeks and onto this beautiful golden drink.  Specifically named Turmeric Milk but is commonly referred to as Golden Milk.  This delightful drink has been part of my self-care routine for quite a few months.  Warm, comforting, and satisfying, this drink has everything needed to combat winter blues and these two-week-waits that keep happening.  Needless to say this is a comfort and a body warrior.

Golden milk, or haldi ka doodh, actually dates back thousands of years in Ayurvedic tradition where it has been used to aid digestion and respiration, prevent colds and flu, decongest the liver, ease sprained muscles and joint pain, purify the blood, clear the skin, aid sleep, and improve female reproductive function.  Y’all know I’m all about that last one!  The main ingredient in golden milk responsible for all of this awesomeness is the curcumin in turmeric, a compound that is responsible for its vibrant hue. Curcumin has been widely studied for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, but it is also supports detoxification, helps balance blood sugar, and lowers the overall risk of cancer.

If that doesn’t make it worthy of making it into your diet the flavor will surly push it to the top.  It’s commonly used in curry but if you aren’t a curry fan this sweet golden milk will make an excellent option!

So here’s how you make this liquid gold (literally because of the color!) and get the most out of this powerful phytonutrient.  Golden Milk is made ideally with full-fat milk.  But of course I don’t drink milk since I’m lactose intolerant and eat paleo so I make it with a blend of almond milk and FULL FAT coconut milk.

But that’s not all you have to do.  Combining it with black peppercorn aids the curcumin to get absorbed by pairing it with piperine and shows to increase the bioavailability of it by up to 2,000 percent!! And the good news is, you only need a very small amount to reap the synergistic benefits. Then melt a little coconut oil in, and the curcumin can be directly absorbed into the bloodstream through the lymphatic system. That’s a cooperative one-two punch of absorption and deliciousness. Sip one of these in the morning and I’d say you are already winning at the day!  Setting yourself up for major health success.

The key to this recipe is to be sure you do not over-heat your milk of choice.  If you do then you’re drink might be too bitter.  Spices like to be courted slowly not jumped on by surprise.  I’m usually not one to be patient with my food/cooking (hence why I barely bake) but making Golden Milk has become more like a meditation for me.  A slow way to start my morning.  So stir consciously and sip gratefully friends.

I love seeing what recipes y’all are making.  Thanks for all the @herheartandtable and #hht tags on Insta-stories!  Love seeing you fuel your bodies for good!

I will have to try this. I’ve made golden paste, also with turmeric, and apparently it shows remarkable results in staying off cancers and other disease. The paste doesn’t taste good but it’s good for you. Perhaps the golden milk will be more palatable for me.
